Life before computer data recovery

Remember those days when losing a file on a computer meant just that? On those days, once you deleted data, intentionally or as an accident, it was really gone. It was common to find desperate office workers trying to find a solution to get back all the work from a week. They had to wait until a group of computer technicians came upon a program to bring lost data back and save the lost files from certain doom.

Remembering those days

Before the existence of computer data recovery methods, programmers and regular PC users had to be extremely careful, and pressing the “delete” key was not an easy decision to take. Pressing this key would mean that you would delete forever that piece of  data, there was no way back, once you pressed it, you could never recover that information. Imagine a group of office employees working on a project a whole day, when suddenly electricity goes away and all systems turn off. You just can’t get even close to that feeling.

A minor solution for simple problems those days was the “undo” key or the “restore” command, but of course it wasn’t good enough for more serious problems. Anyway, there was a group of brave and intelligent men that faced the problem and decided to find a solution that could save our galaxy from this disaster. They knew the computer world would thank them forever. They worked tirelessly, day and night, until they found the ultimate data recovery tool.

They were considered crazy men because of the notion they had about designing a program or set of programs that could go “beyond the computer” and rescue the files from the hard drive was a really a big problem. But the technicians were persistent and, after what seemed an eternity, they managed to finally succeed. The program was able to find the lost files and get them back from the hard drive’s surface. The thought was that if the files were out there, they could be found and if the files could be found, they could be brought back!

New problems to face

Years passed, and everybody was happy with this excellent solution. A lot of problems were solved. Office employees had fewer reasons to be stressed for and the world got back to important work. Lots of other programs appeared each one better than its predecessors, and as time passed by, the original creators were forgotten. Using the computer became fun again, and there was a feeling of security on the air. Few time passed until these heroes needed to come back to face a new menace called “Virus”, evil pieces of code that wanted to take all over the computer world. They ventured back into the lab searching for yet another cure…
